About us
Our Story
OCR Rally was born from a friendship built within the classic car industry. With over 60 years experience in the industry between them, and over a decade of working together preparing historic rally cars and other vehicles, Gary and Ben have a keen passion for all things classic car. They had gone their separate ways until 2023 where they were given the opportunity to open OCR Rally after restoring a Cortina for a customer for the Monte Carlo rally.
OCR recognise that accurate and regular communication with their customers helps to include them in the process, ensuring the time projects take to complete are achievable and realistic. Our aim is to provide a bespoke high quality service to all customers by building a clientele for both the restoring of historic and competition vehicles. The OCR objective is to run a workshop to the highest standard with works completed in a timely manner with the sole intention of providing unparalleled customer service. We also offer complete support for all events, from travel, shipping and on hand mechanical needs.
We pride ourselves on our friendly approach and superior attention to detail.
Meet The Team
Ben Harris
Ben trained in restoration as part of his apprenticeship. Now, with over 23 years of experience, he has developed a real passion and a keen eye in both running and building a variety of vehicle projects. After developing and fine tuning his skills in classic vehicle servicing, Ben took the opportunity to challenge himself restoring vehicles. Restoring MG’s (including Mike Brewers own MGA) with a vast array of, often bespoke custom-made modifications have formed a huge part of a successful career he loves.
With a keen interest in historical motorsport Ben moved on to the historic rally scene, building vintage American vehicles for endurance events such as Peking to Paris. The Chevrolet Fangio replicas were a particular highlight, all heavily modified and to a professional standard. These experiences culminated in Ben running a workshop of several people as well as being requested on several events such as the Monte Carlo Historique and Le Jog.
Gary Pickard
Gary had his first taste of competing in Motorsport aged just 16 and found his passion. He completed his apprenticeship and studied at Oxford College of Mechanical Engineering – the very beginning of 35 reputable years of experience in the industry. A love of classic cars was developed early on and having competed in ‘both seats’ of rallying, he has an admirable understanding of all aspects involved.
Gary has serviced on numerous rallies worldwide from club through to international level events. With 2 Peking to Paris rallies under his belt, it was at his first in 2013 that the spark ignited his passion for long distance endurance events. Having worked on these events, it has given Gary a valuable insight into the potential failures of reliability on rallies and this knowledge is put to great use in the workshop.
Gary gets real enjoyment from ‘repairing the unforeseen’ and is always looking forward to the next challenge.
Harry
From a young age, Harry has always had a keen interest in cars. His Father, an employee of Jaguar Land Rovers development team, ensured dinner table conversation was never far from car chat always feeding Harry's enthusiasm. At the age of 10, Harry went to watch the RAC rally and vividly recalls the roar of the Lancia Stratos which sticks with him to this day.
Harry's ambition has always been to work on the vehicles he would want to drive, with OCR Rally providing the perfect platform for this as he dreams about Ford Escort rally cars, MG's and Aston Martins to name a few.
Harry has since enrolled in the Bicester Heritage skills academy, he is a keen learner with bags of enthusiasm.
Adam Townsend
From an early age, visits to classic car shows with his grandparents sparked a lifelong passion for historic vehicles. That enthusiasm led him to train at the Heritage Skills Academy, where he developed the specialist knowledge and craftsmanship required to work on some of the world’s most iconic cars.
He went on to complete an apprenticeship working across a diverse range of rally and classic vehicles, before joining a company renowned for its expertise in Italian classics, including Ferrari models. These experiences allowed him to refine his technical skills across multiple marques and eras.
Having previously worked alongside our team, he was keen to return and demonstrate his continued growth and development within the industry. He remains committed to furthering his expertise and continually improving his craft. He particularly enjoys working on a broad spectrum of vehicles, with a special affinity for veteran English cars.
Building strong, personal relationships with clients is central to his approach, and he takes great pride in caring for their cherished vehicles as if they were his own.
Beyond the workshop, he represented Starter Motor, a charity dedicated to creating opportunities in the classic car industry for under-25s. Through this, he participated in the London to Brighton Veteran Run in a 1903 Oldsmobile, as well as several HERO rallies and hill climb events.
He is especially proud of his achievements with OCR Rally, notably undertaking a full rebuild of a Jaguar XK120 following paintwork, which included a complete rewire with a new wiring loom. He regularly supports vehicles on events for OCR Rally, with Rally Classico Mallorca standing out as a particular highlight.
Paul Taylor
With a lifelong passion for all vehicles — from cars to motorbikes — he brings a depth of experience and craftsmanship gained from over 40 years in the motor trade. Originally trained as a panel beater, he spent many years specialising in heavy crash repair and precision jig work, developing a reputation for accuracy and structural excellence.
Over the decades, his career has spanned every corner of the industry — from vehicle sales and painting to panel beating and workshop management — giving him a well-rounded and highly practical understanding of the trade. He has extensive restoration experience across many vehicles and particularly enjoys taking on larger, long-term projects where quality and attention to detail are paramount. His philosophy is simple: do the job properly, and do it once. His keen eye for detail ensures every project meets the highest standards.
Outside of the workshop, he enjoys off-road motorbiking and has built several off-road bikes over the years. He also has a passion for property renovation, a keen interest in the equestrian world, and enjoys travelling — with Italy being a particular favourite destination. Above all, he is a dedicated family man.
Currently, he is thoroughly enjoying a full body restoration of a Ford Escort RS2000 Mk1 — a project he values highly, particularly because both the business and the client share a commitment to restoring the car to the highest possible standard. He continues to take great pride in being part of life at OCR Rally.
Sam Wallington
A passion for classic and vintage cars began at an early age, inspired by watching family friends compete in hill climb events in cars such as Austin Healeys and vintage Bentleys. That early exposure sparked an appreciation for performance and a fascination with the history and stories behind each vehicle — something that still drives his approach today.
He holds a BTEC qualification in Engineering and completed a Classic Vehicle Maintenance and Restoration course, building a strong technical foundation before starting his apprenticeship at Fiennes Restoration. There, he was heavily involved in full restoration projects, carrying out general mechanical overhauls alongside precision machining tasks. His experience spans classic Italian vehicles, race cars, and modern garages, giving him a broad and adaptable skill set. He enjoys understanding how vehicles have evolved over time and values the craftsmanship behind each era.
Outside of work, he has a longstanding passion for off-road motorbikes. Having grown up riding competitively, he thrives on the adrenaline and competitive edge of the sport. He has rebuilt numerous bikes over the years and is currently restoring a Honda CRF450R.
He joined OCR following a recommendation from a respected local engineer and quickly felt at home within the team. He values the friendly working environment and the personal approach that defines the business. One aspect he enjoys most is the sheer variety of vehicles and projects — no two days are ever the same. He particularly enjoys the modification side of rally car preparation, relishing the technical challenges it brings. Larger, long-term projects are especially rewarding, allowing him to become fully immersed in a build, and he takes great pride in seeing vehicles he has worked on successfully complete major events.
